Approach
The Building Healthy Communities (BHC) Initiative, created by the California Endowment in 2010, selected 14 of the most disadvantaged communities in the State of California with the intent of improving the social determinants of health with a commitment of 1 million dollars per year per community over a period of 10 years. Some of the factors in the selection process for the community entailed demonstrating significant heath disparities and readiness for collaboration amongst government and NGOs.
