Community Architect: Teena B. Dhabale

Teena B. Dhabale is a community architect in Ahmedabad, who works with Mahila Housing Trust (MHT) to assist women from the community to design and build homes that serve as multi-functional spaces to support both work and domestic life. Most wage earning women living in informal settlements in India perform “casual” work which they do from their homes. Some make goods to sell, others take in sub contracted work for employers but, in almost all cases, there are no dedicated work spaces. Every room must double as both a work space and living space.
